Equity and Editorial Liberty
The academic merit of submitted manuscripts (importance, originality, validity of the study, clarity) and their applicability to the journal’s scope are the only criteria editors consider. The authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious beliefs, political philosophy, or institutional affiliation are not taken into consideration. Government regulations or those of any other organization other than the journal itself do not influence editorial and publication decisions. The journal’s whole editorial content, including when it is published, is entirely within the Editor-in-Chief’s control.
Decisions about Publications
The editors ensure that at least two subject-matter experts peer-review every submitted manuscript for consideration for publication. The Editor-in-Chief is in charge of selecting which of the manuscripts submitted to the journal will be published. This decision is made after considering the work’s validity, its significance to readers and researchers, the reviewers’ feedback, and any applicable laws pertaining to plagiarism, copyright violations, and libel. The Editor-in-Chief may consult with other editors or reviewers when making this choice.
Cooperation and Participation in Enquiries
When ethical issues are brought up about a submitted manuscript or published work, editors (together with the publisher and/or society) will respond. Even if unethical publishing practices are uncovered years after publication, every reported instance will be investigated. When addressing alleged misconduct, HKJN editors adhere to the COPE Flowcharts. A correction, retraction, statement of concern, or other pertinent remark will be published in the journal if an inquiry reveals that the ethical concern is well-founded.
